Teens want to focus on the fun things in life, so it’s no surprise to learn that you can have a hard time figuring out how to lose weight teens especially. For a start you have to rush off to school after barely waking up, leaving no time for a healthy breakfast, and the lunches they serve at school can hardly be called food at all, let alone healthy food. What’s a teen to do?

The first thing that you need to do is eat breakfast. This fires up your metabolism so that you burn more calories throughout the day. If you don’t eat breakfast, chances are you’re not going to be able to eat anything until lunch, which is too late. If you don’t have a lot of time and are flying out the door, try eating something that you can take with you. A smoothie made with protein powder, for example, is portable. You can also make healthy breakfast cookies from a number of recipes.

With breakfast under your belt, you won’t feel starving by the time lunch rolls around. But you still want to make healthy choices. First off, take a look at the school lunch menu. Is there anything that’s healthy to eat that you enjoy eating? Available options vary widely from school to school. If there’s something that you like, go ahead and get it. If not, plan to bring your lunch. Sandwiches are a quick and healthy option, especially if you pair them with fresh fruits and vegetables. Make your lunch the night before and store it in the refrigerator to save yourself the rush in the morning.

After school snacks are the next big pitfall. It’s natural to get hungry in the afternoon, but if you’re staying after school for activities, you may have little choice besides what’s available in the vending machine – a lot of junk food. So be sure to bring along a healthy snack with you. Consider cheese and crackers, apple and peanut butter or a piece of fruit.

Your parents may or may not be serving you healthy foods for dinner. They are probably busy people and they don’t necessarily think about how to lose weight for teens. Are they always stopping for takeout on their way home for work or do they serve a home cooked meal every night? If you’d like to see healthier fare on the dinner table, then step up. Tell your parents that you want to get healthy and offer to cook the foods as long as they buy the ingredients you need. This can actually be a big relief for busy parents who don’t have the time to cook.

If you follow these steps and choose healthy foods, you won’t have to follow a strict calorie-counting regimen. When you make good food choices, the weight just comes off naturally and there is no need to think about how to lose weight teens!
