Weight can be a big issue for teenage girls, but when focusing on how to lose weight as a teenager it’s important that you don’t take dieting too seriously. A teenage body is still growing and it’s important that you give your body the fuel that it needs to support itself. The key to weight loss for teenage girls is to follow a healthy eating plan while getting in a good amount of exercise.

If you’re a teenager that needs to lose weight, you should start slow. First, take a look at your current activity level and the amount of calories that you’re eating. For one week, make a note of everything that you eat throughout the day. You can track it in a meal tracker online. This makes it easy because it will automatically look up calories, including fat, protein, and carbohydrate counts.

Once you know where you’re starting from, you’ll have a better idea of where you want to go. When you look at all the foods that you’ve eaten throughout the week, you’ll probably notice unhealthy patterns. For example, maybe you eat a light lunch because you’re embarrassed to eat around your friends, but then you eat a lot of junk food when you get home from school. Look at this food journal and try to figure out where you can make improvements.

Do what you can to make healthy changes to your diet. You don’t have to actively count the calories that you eat (though that can help). Just switch out foods that are unhealthy with healthier ones. You may want to eat cheese and crackers after school instead of potato chips. Or pack a lunch instead of ordering the school’s lunch.

Then, you should also try to incorporate some exercise into your daily routine. This doesn’t have to be anything difficult. In fact, you should choose activities that you enjoy doing, so that it doesn’t seem like another chore. Try playing games on the Wii Fit or going for a walk with friends instead of just hanging out at someone’s house.

Once you combine good eating habits with regular exercise, you’ll begin to see any extra weight just naturally come off. The hardest part of how to lose weight as a teenager is just getting started.
