Fat Loss For Teens: How To Lose Belly Fat
In this article on fat loss for teens we will look at how to lose belly fat.
Belly fat can be the hardest to lose and if you’re a teenager, you’re under a lot of pressure to stay thin. Pressure can come from the media, your family, and your classmates, causing you to feel bad about yourself. Fortunately, there are some things that you can do to get rid of your belly fat and, since you’re a teenager, your body should have an easier time losing weight.
The key to losing belly fat is to attack it from two directions. You have to combine diet and exercise to get rid of the layer of fat around your middle. One you do this, you’ll start to see the pounds melting off.
1. Diet to lose belly fat
Try tracking your calories for a week to see how much you’re eating. Try not to change your eating habits in this time (though it’s hard not to when you’re paying attention) because you want this to be a base point. When you know how many calories you are eating, you can determine how many calories you should be eating if you want to lose weight. Try to start by eating just 500 calories per day less than what you would normally eat. If you don’t see results within two weeks, cut it a bit further, but never go below 1200 calories a day.
Be sure to pack your lunch because most school lunches are anything but healthy. They’re loaded with calories and sodium, which could be causing you to hold onto your weight. When you bring your own lunch, you control what goes into it and you can choose healthy options.
Also be sure to bring along some healthy snacks to school with you, especially if you are participating in after school activities. Your energy dips in the afternoon and you will need a pick-me-up, but if you don’t have something healthy, you may turn to the vending machine.
2. Exercise to lose belly fat
You may think that you should do a lot of crunches in order to get rid of belly fat, but actually, it’s more important to do cardio. It’s the cardio exercises that are going to get rid of fat. Crunches just build up your ab muscles.
If you’ve never done an exercise program before, start slow. If you try to do too much too fast, you’ll burn out and want to stop. Try just going for a walk every day after school. If you’re going to walk though, you need to walk fast. A casual stroll isn’t going to cut it. You need to get your heart rate up.
If that’s not something that interests you, try using an exercise video. You can choose from a wide range, such as bellydancing, hip hop, aerobics, or yoga. Surely you’ll be able to find something that you like. This allows you to get your workout in the privacy of your own home.
Whatever you do, it’s important to pick an activity that you like. Getting fitter is not so hard when you find something that keeps you interested. You will soon start seeing results in your program for how to lose belly fat which will be a great motivator to stick with your fat loss for teens program.
