Building up your muscles can help you gain strength, tone up, and burn more calories. Here are some of the ways that you can do strength training exercises with home exercise equipment:

1. Resistance bands. These are great for beginners and advanced trainers alike. You can use resistance bands in a variety of ways to work out your muscles. Be sure to purchase the right strength for your current fitness level.

2. Weight bench and free weights. Free weights allow you to add and take away weight as necessary. A whole set can cost a lot, but you can also get smaller dumbbells for cheap that are still adjustable. The weight bench allows you to use the free weights in various positions.

3. Body weight exercises. Tried and true exercises, such as push-ups, squats, and lunges are still an excellent workout. Furthermore, you don’t need to have any equipment at all to do them, so they are not just cheap, they are free.

4. All-in-one weight machine. While this option is not cheap exercise equipment, it might be worth considering. A weight lifting machine that allows you to exercise all the muscles in your body, such as the Bow Flex, is a big investment and is also quite large. If you have the space, however, it can be a great way to get your strength training in.

Whichever method of strength training you choose, be sure to set a plan and stick to it. You should not work your muscles every day, as they need rest to heal and grow. Instead, you should either do a full-body workout every other day, or alternate between upper body and lower body workouts.

You don’t have to worry about “bulking up” if that isn’t your goal. The kind of light strength training exercises that you’ll do are not the kind that turn you into a strongman. Bulking up does not happen by accident! Using home exercise equipment in these ways will simply tone you up and give you a better looking body.
